On Saturday, the final chapter of Gido Amagakure’s manga “A Galaxy Next Door” (Otonari ni Ginga) was published in the June issue of Kodansha’s Good! Afternoon magazine. The next issue, which will be released on June 7, will include the manga’s epilogue chapter.
“A Galaxy Next Door” was first serialized in Good! Afternoon magazine in April 2020. Kodansha published the first compiled book volume of the manga in November 2020, and the sixth and final volume is set to be published on July 6. Kodansha USA Publishing has licensed the manga and will release the fifth volume in English on July 11.
The anime adaptation of the manga premiered on TOKYO MX and BS11 channels on April 8 and is also available for streaming on various platforms in Japan, including the d Anime Store and U-NEXT. Crunchyroll has been simulcasting the anime and started streaming an English dub on April 22. Additionally, a live-action series based on the manga premiered on April 3.
Gido Amagakure’s 12-volume manga, “Sweetness & Lightning” (Amaama to Inazuma), was originally serialized in Kodansha’s Good! Afternoon magazine in 2013 and concluded in August 2018. Kodansha Comics initially released the manga digitally in English before moving on to print releases. Crunchyroll published new chapters as they were released in Japan, although they no longer host catalog chapters. The manga also inspired a 12-episode anime that premiered in July 2016 and was available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
