The anime community is bidding farewell to a renowned artist today. News reports from Japan have confirmed that Takahiro Kimura passed away on March 5th due to amyloidosis, a rare disease characterized by the accumulation of amyloid protein in internal organs that can lead to a decline in bodily functions.

Kimura was a veteran animator and character designer who was best known for his work on Code Geass, where he brought the anime’s vibrant characters to life. He later became an animation director for Code Geass, taking on various roles and providing key animation for numerous projects. Kimura also worked on other well-known anime franchises such as City Hunter, GaoGaiGar, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Macross Plus, Mobile Suit Gundam, Snow White with the Red Hair, and Wolf’s Rain.

The anime community is mourning Kimura’s passing, and many fans are spreading awareness about amyloidosis, a disease that is not well-known. This illness can significantly impact the heart, spleen, kidneys, and liver. Presently, those diagnosed with amyloidosis have a life expectancy of 8-10 years, depending on the accumulation rate and production protocols.
