Mirage Queen Novel Gets New Anime Adaptation

At the “Mirage Queen Prefers Parties” event held on Sunday, it was revealed that a new anime titled Kaitō Queen no Yūga na Kyūka (Mirage Queen’s Elegant Vacations) has been green-lit. The announcement came as a surprise, even to the franchise’s original novelist, Kaoru Hayamine, who was not informed beforehand.

Mirage Queen Novel Gets New Anime Adaptation

The first Kaitō Queen short story was published by Hayamine and Kadokawa in 2000. Kadokawa’s children’s book label, Aoitori Bunko, debuted the first full-length novel Mirage Queen Prefers Circus (Kaitō Queen wa Circus ga Osuki) in March 2002, featuring illustrations by K2 Shōkai. The latest novel was released in July 2021, while the second full-length novel goes by the name Kaitō Queen no Yūga na Kyūka.

Last June, the Mirage Queen novel series received its first screen adaptation with an original video anime called Mirage Queen Prefers Circus (Kaitō Queen wa Circus ga Osuki). The lead role of the title Queen was played by Yūga Yamato, known for their role as Tuxedo Mask in Sailor Moon stage plays. The project was directed by Saori Den, a director of several Pokémon episodes, at East Fish Studio. Mariko Kunisawa, the writer for series such as Ascendance of a Bookworm and Orient, wrote the script, while Kumiko Kawashima, the character designer for Fantasista Stella, handled the character designs.
