On September 15, 2021, at the 2nd Gundam Conference, Sunrise revealed that a new instalment in the Gundam series was being worked on and that it would premiere on October 2, 2022. It was announced that a prologue prequel would premiere on July 14, 2022. The series is directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi, with Ryo Ando serving as co-director.
