The Suzume no Tojimari anime film by Makoto Shinkai is still creating a buzz around the world, and certain theaters in the United States are still showing it. Following the latest calculation, the latest work from the renowned director of Your Name. and Weathering With You has grossed more than $10 million at the U.S. box office.

As per a report from The Mainichi, a Japanese news website, the movie has achieved an impressive sales figure of US$108 million and has been viewed by more than 22 million moviegoers in mainland China. This has surpassed the previous attendance record set by Your Name, which had 20.6 million viewers. Suzume no Tojimari has now solidified its position as one of the most beloved anime movies of all time in China, having accomplished this feat in just a little over a month of release in theaters. The impact of Suzume no Tojimari is not limited to China as it has also made a mark in South Korea, with 4.4 million tickets sold, as mentioned in a tweet by the official Suzume Twitter account. Its exceptional performance has made it the top-grossing film to have been released in Korea in 2023.
Furthermore, the movie has secured its position as the ninth highest-grossing anime film of all time in Japan, surpassing Jujutsu Kaisen 0 by Gege Akutami.
Suzume no Tojimari, the movie’s full title, was announced in December 2021, followed by the release of a visual and teaser trailer in April 2022. The film premiered in Japan on November 11, 2022, featuring character designs by Masayoshi Tanaka and art direction by Takumi Tanji. CoMix Wave Films produced the animation for the movie. Currently, the film is being shown internationally.
