On Friday, the staff of the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Makiko Nagaoka’s light novel series You Were Experienced, I Wasn’t, And This is How We Started Dating (Keiken Zumi na Kimi to, Keiken Zero na Ore ga, Otsukiai Suru Hanashi) released the anime’s first teaser promotional video, as well as details regarding the cast, additional staff, and the 2023 debut.

ENGI’s upcoming anime series will be directed by Hideaki Oba, who has worked on titles such as “Love of Kill”, “Pandalian”, and “Dr. Ramune: Mysterious Disease Specialist”. The series scripts will be overseen by Hiroko Fukuda, known for her work on “Taisho Otome Fairy Tale” and “Gekijōban Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san”. Yōsuke Itō, who previously worked on “Holmes of Kyoto”, “Hensuki”, and “The Detective Is Already Dead”, will be responsible for designing the characters for animation based on magako’s original illustrations. The music for the anime is being composed by Kei Haneoka, known for his work on “Kaguya-sama: Love is War”. The music is being produced by Pony Canyon. Takeshi Takadera, the sound director of “Yowamushi Pedal”, is responsible for sound direction for this anime as well.

Story
Ryuuto Kashima is a gloomy high schooler. As part of a punishment game, he was forced to confess to Runa Shirakawa, a girl from the top of the school caste who was admired by everyone. They ended up going out for the unexpected reason of “Err, I’m free now so…” but Ryuuto ends up following and eavesdropping on Runa being confessed by a handsome soccer club member, and Runa bringing Ryuuto, whom she had just begun dating, to her own room as a matter of course. They have different friends and ways to have fun, and they are different in almost every way. Nonetheless, they begin to relate with each other after being surprised by their differences every day and accepting them.
Under Kadokawa’s Fantasia Bunko label, Makiko Nagaoka released the first volume of her light novel series in September 2020, with illustrations by magako. The sixth volume was released on Friday. In February 2022, Noyama Carpaccio adapted the novels into a manga series, which has been published on Square Enix’s Gangan Online website. The third compiled volume of the manga is scheduled to be released on April 12 by Square Enix.
