On Sunday, the official website for the television anime adaptation of Okemaru’s light novel series Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha (The Dreaming Man is a Realist) revealed a new promotional video and visual for the anime, along with additional staff members. The anime is set to premiere in the upcoming summer season.

The anime will be directed by Kazuomi Koga, known for directing Rent-A-Girlfriend and Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible, and will be produced by Studio Gokumi and AXsiZ. Michiko Yokote, who has worked on popular anime such as Shirobako, Prison School, Cowboy Bebop, and Rurouni Kenshin, will be in charge of the series scripts. Masaru Koseki, known for adapting character designs for animation in World’s End Harem and Demon King Daimao, will adapt Sabamizore’s original character designs for the anime. The sound director will be Hajime Takakuwa, who has worked on Rent-A-Girlfriend and Spice and Wolf, and the music will be produced by Pony Canyon.
Shigeyuki Koresawa and Tom (both from Digital Noise) will serve as the prop designers for the project. Chikako Shibata from Studio Kanon will be the art director, while Michiru Odaka from Digital Noise will be responsible for the art setting. Mayumi Tanahashi will handle the color setting, and Naomasa Fukuda will oversee special effects. Satoshi Yamamoto will be the director of photography, while Mutsumi Takemiya will handle the editing. Dax Production will be in charge of sound production, and Ryōhei Sataka will compose the music. Tetsuya Tomioka will serve as the animation producer for the project.
Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha follows the story of high school student Wataru Sajō, who is hopelessly in love with his classmate Aika Natsukawa. Despite Aika’s lack of interest, Wataru continues to dream of a mutual love and pursue her. However, one day he wakes up from this dream and realizes the need to face reality and distance himself from Aika. This causes Aika to become shaken for some reason.
The series was first launched on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in December 2018 and is ongoing. Hobby Japan is releasing the novels in print with illustrations by Sabamizore, with the seventh volume released on August 1. A manga adaptation by Popuri Yoshikita is also being published by Kadokawa, with the third volume released on November 25.
